I’m thrilled you’re here! Grab a cup of coffee (or ice cream cone…š) and let’s get to know each other.
Iām a slightly goofy mom of 3 (including twins) located outside of Boston who hasnāt met a Reeseās peanut butter cup she didnāt like.
Iām an average cook, hate cleaning my house, and get anxious driving in traffic. I love old houses, traveling, watching BBC period movies, and recently took up jogging to fight weight gain (curse you perimenopause!!!)
Inspiration Behind “While Mom Waits”
My oldest daughter is in middle school, and I wait a lot for her. She’s an amazingly creative and lovable kid, and she has executive function challenges. If you have kids aged 10 and up, you’ve probably heard about executive functioning. She has problems with getting ready on time, organizing her day, transitioning from one activity to the next, and easily distracted. She’s also has “time blindness” – who knew that was a thing!?!?
To help you navigate her world, Iāve learned a lot from the experts about āseeing and managingā time (I’m a HUGE fan of Sarah Ward). Their tools and strategies have helped my daughter immensely. And honestly, they have helped me manage my time as well.
As a result, itās helped me become a more productive, calmer and happier person.
I’ve learned to carve time out for myself. When this same daughter took up crochet and begged me to sign her up to sell at a craft fair, I was hesitant. But while I wasn’t completely sure she was ready, I rented a table.
I was concerned that she wasn’t going to make enough to sell, so I dug up my old knitting needles from the attic. I hadn’t knitted in almost 15 years. Before kids and marriage, I used to make hats, scarves, blankets, sweaters, etc… Then, well, life kicked into gear!
I made a few things for her craft fair, and more importantly, I remembered how much I loved knitting.
Yet, I’m a busy mom but I was determined to squeeze in time to knit. While at the orthodontist’s office. In the car at school pickup.
And I was AMAZED at how much I could get done while waiting. Instead of mindlessly scrolling through social media (which of course I still do some days!!!), now I had a better purpose for those few spare moments.
And while I was enjoying this new-ish hobby, I still saw lots of mom also sitting in their cars, waiting for their kids. On their phones, scrolling through social media, looking at their watching, looking bored, and sometimes frustrated. And I want to help them feel a little better about their time.
While Mom Waits – What’s in It for You….
As mom’s we spend so much of your time waiting…..
- Waiting in the car or stand on the sideway waiting for your child to leave school.
- Sitting in the bleachers while practice waiting for practice to wrap up.
- Hanging out in the orthodontist room for those new elastic bands for those expensive braces.
- Anywhere you are have a few minutes…. you catch my drift.
It’s easy to feel like those moments just slip away. But what if you could use that time for productivity, self-care or even a little fun? My mission is to help you create time to do more – and NOT just the practical āletās do a grocery listā but also āwow I have time for a self-manicure?ā for yourself. ‘Cause moms, we deserve it!
Organizing Bite-Sized Periods of Time
Iām not looking (nor qualified) to completely overhaul your day – just improve your productivity in small “micro” steps.
Most of you have heard of the book “Atomic Habits”, New York Times bestseller and the highest-rated habits book on Amazon. It’s premise is to slowly changing habits and get 1% better every day – aka Tiny Habits, Remarkable Results.
I want you to think of this website (and weekly newsletter) as “Atomic Habits for the School Pickup Line”.
I’m no time management expert. I am far from perfect. Iām a work in progress and I donāt have it all figured out. I love to learn, research and grow every day. I donāt know it all by any means. But I do know that I want to grow and be better, and help others along the same path.
Stay in Touch!
